In a world that continues to move towards remote work and school, learning management systems continuously fall behind and fail to meet the needs of today’s students.
My team and I dove deep into understanding the pain points students come across when using today's LMS’s in order to create a platform that not only compliments, but enhances a students educational experience.
Learning Management Systems are outdated and difficult to navigate. We asked the question, how might we improve upon current LMS platforms to better cater to today's students?
The research is clear. Students hated the platforms they were using. They feel that they aren't keeping up with the way schools educate today, especially as educators continue to push all aspects of class onto our devices such as assignments, grades, feedback, and peer engagement.
One of students biggest struggles today is managing all of their different tasks across classes, often having to input assignments and their due dates manually. Hive automatically populates your calendar with class times, assignments, and due dates.
Feeling connected with your class is already difficult enough in person. Add in the barrier of having to email them every time you have a question, and you really begin to feel disengaged. Students wanted an easier way to connect with peers without having to give out personal information and making six different group chats across numerous platforms.
Oh, and no more stressing about when your professor is finally going to is grade your assignment...
Gone are the days when we had huge folders filled with paperwork and worksheets we got from class. Today, it's digital, and yet so many LMS's have failed to create a clear and concise course page. Many allow customization from an educator standpoint, making every course dashboard different from the last. Hive eliminates the confusion with a simple interface and clear layout that shows everything you need to be on top of your classwork.
Building an LMS site map is no easy task. There are so many components from both a back end and front end standpoint. My team and I wanted to focus on the features that students find themselves using most on their LMS's.
Accessibility and simplicity were at the forefront of our design process when laying out the wireframe for Hive. Students are already overwhelmed and stressed, so an easy to understand platform that highlights where they stand and what needs to get done was a critical factor when designing each page.
